Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, talk say di videos wey dey circulate for social media na false and misleading claims wey dem wan use dey rouse public sentiments.
According to di police statement, dem receive distress call around 7:00 a.m. on March 23, 2026, say about 300 people wey carry cutlasses, bottles, bows and arrows don storm NURTW headquarters for Sapele Street, Garki II, Abuja. Di group dey remove items from di premises when police arrive.
Deputy Commissioner of Police for Operations, DCP Isyaku Sharu, lead response team go di scene. Preliminary investigations show say di suspects dey try enforce court order for di premises without court sheriffs and other officials wey get authority. Dis action turn to physical confrontation when other NURTW members try resist dem.
One victim suffer severe machete wounds for neck during di clash. Police team rescue di victim, while several others wey get different injuries dem rush go nearby hospital for treatment. Di police arrest seven suspects for di scene including Ibikunle T. Baruwa, Sulaiman A. Musa, Nasiru Ibrahim, Alhaji Sadisu Musa, Dalha Suleiman, Abdullahi Garba, and Saheed Fojebi.
All di suspects don dey charged before Magistrate Court 1 for Wuse Zone 2. Police say normalcy don return to di area after di incident. Di command emphasize say dem no shoot anybody during di operation, dem only intervene to restore order after receiving distress call.
Di incident happen amid leadership tussle inside NURTW. Reports show say Baruwa don take control of di union national secretariat for Abuja after displacing Musiliu Akinsanya, wey people know as MC Oluomo. Baruwa cite series of court rulings as reason for him action.
Police warn public to stop spreading false information about di incident. Dem say any video wey show police shooting NURTW members na fabrication. Di command promise to continue maintain law and order for FCT and deal with anybody wey try cause violence.
