Na serious matter wey Ekiti State First Lady, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, don carry come here oh! She don appeal make political, traditional and religious leaders join hands together to protect our female children from this wahala wey dem dey call female genital mutilation (FGM). Dis appeal no be small one as she talk am for Ado Ekiti on top the 2026 International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM.
The theme wey dem give this year na “2030: No end to FGM without sustained commitment and investment”, and na to show say we need follow this matter with serious mind, no more wahala!
FGM na big gist for Ekiti, as e don dey happen for so long, and na one of the states for Nigeria wey dem sabi for am. But the state government don try chop down this bad practice with serious laws wey go make dem no fit run am like wetin dem dey call a jolly ride.
For the 2019 law, the government don put strong penalties wey go follow anybody wey still dey do FGM. Olayemi don talk say we gatz show serious commitment make the law no just dey for paper, wey no go fit correct anything. E say we need cultural discussions wey go change from acceptance to clear-cut condemnation.
She wan make our places of worship and traditional palaces dey cry out for protection for our young girls, no more silence! Na so she dey vow through her organization, Widows, Aged, Orphans Hope Support Foundation, say she go dey ensure FGM no fit continue for Ekiti.
Olayemi talk say, “This na our turning point. We gatz start to gather all resources we fit get and make sure every survivor wey don suffer FGM dey receive not just legal help but also care wey go heal their hearts.”
She mention say the Gender Unit under her office go continue to dey fight this matter, dey make sure no case go unreported and no bad guy escape punishment. “Make we no just talk on top this matter, make we put action to our words, so that Ekiti go fit show the whole Nigeria how to end FGM properly,” she add.
Dem recently don gather over 100 communities wey don declare say FGM no dey happen for their side again, all thanks to community leaders wey don stand up for this cause. But e still get some small pockets wey dey resistant, about 10% still dey drag leg.
Mrs. Abimbola Aladejare-Salako, wey represent Civil Society Organizations, don talk say dem don make laws wey go help fight FGM, and all perpetrators gatz face the law sharply! She don promise say dem go continue to dey work with all stakeholders till we clear out FGM from Ekiti.
Matter don reach plenty government officials wey attend the event, including the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Peju Babafemi, and Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oyebanji Filani, wey send person come. All dis people wey dey follow dey try make sure Ekiti fit reduce the issue of FGM smart-smart!
So beloved people, make we lend our ears and our hands dey support dis important cause. No more FGM for our girls again. As Ekiti dey lead the charge, make other states dey follow suit to stop this old practice!
