FG Don Finally Approve ASUU Allowance, Academics Go Shine!

Chai! Na wah! Federal Government don finally start to carry out wetin dem promise ASUU, and e no be small matter o! Dem don approve one serious 40% increase for Consolidated Academic Allowance (CAA) wey go affect all ASUU members, and dis one don start as from January 1, 2026. Na Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, na im drop dis announcement last Monday.

According to wetin the Ministry of Education talk, some federal universities don dey reflect the new increase for their salary payments already. This one mean say dem get serious wahala if dem no fulfill dis new arrangement, because FG don clearly talk say all universities go integrate dis increase into their payrolls. Na so dem go ensure say all dem academic staff wey eligible go benefit from di increase.

The Minister even make am clear say vice chancellors no go fit slack for dis matter. E don tell dem say dem need to make sure say dem comply fully with di framework for di Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA). Dis one no bi small thing o! E get as dem plan say this allowance go help bolster research, teach better, and generally upgrade di whole academic environment for Nigeria. Na wetin dem talk be say, dem don capture di payment in di 2026 budget, so no shaking!

Abeg, make I gist you small backstory. Last month, FG and ASUU finally come together come settle long-standing wahala wey don dey for Nigeria university system since 2017. Dis new agreement wey dem sign na continuation of di 2009 pact wey suppose don reviewed since 2012. Na many committees try, but dem no fit reach agreement until dis current administration don put together di Yayale Ahmed-led committee for renegotiation.

Di outcome wey dem finally show na plan wey focus on better working conditions, funding for universities, and di autonomy of di institutions. Dem talk say dis agreement get serious provisions like di 40% salary increase wey go make dem academic staff fit live better life. Na so dem dey plan restructure di whole pay system, include new Professorial Cadre Allowance and nine earned academic allowances wey go increase transparency for wetin di staff dey do.

FG dey serious about fulfilling dis agreement, and dem don talk say transparency and constructive engagement na di way forward. Dem assure say every drop of dis allowance go reach di right people, this go boost morale for di lecturers and enhance plenty aspects of teaching and learning.

So my people, now wey FG don show serious commitment to education matters, make we dey hope say better days dey come for our university system. As dem dey work towards improving di system, na we go benefit from di better education wey dey front!
