Naija Health Workers Don Start CPR Training To Save Lives!

Omo, hear dis one, sharp sharp! Federal Government don yan say dem don start training for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for staff wey dey work for Federal Ministry of Health. Wetin be the reason? Na to make sure say dem fit respond anytime cardiac arrest waka enter their area!

Dis initiative, e dey supported by Nigerian Cardiac Society (NCS) and Society for Public Health and Social Development. Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Salako, na im carry the matter come front for Abuja on Thursday. E talk say wetin dem dey do no be just ordinary training; na serious matter wey fit save life, and dem need am quick.

As Dr Salako talk am, sudden cardiac arrest fit happen anywhere – for house, office, even for street when people dey do their thing. And for dis time, time no dey wait for anybody. If person waka collapse, the quickness wey person fit use CPR and AED fit be the difference between life and death!

Salako talk say dem dey plan to carry dis training go everywhere for Nigeria, so that citizens go sabi wetin to do if person collapse. “We dey dream of Nigeria wey citizens fit see when person don faint, know wetin to do, and quickly call for help. The training no go end for the ministry; we dey carry am go communities, schools, and public places,” e yan.

Dr Olanrewaju Olatunji wey dey oversee the Trauma Emergency Disaster Response Programme, come add say, e no go good if everybody no sabi how to do CPR, BLS, and use AED. “No be only health workers wey suppose sabi dis skills; everybody for this country suppose learn am,” e talk.

Prof. Augustine Odili, President of NCS, come drop some knowledge too. E dey talk say dem dey work on how to standardize these trainings make everything dey organized well. “We no go just dey rely on American Heart Association certification again; we go create our own certification wey go fit help make sure trainers dey adequate for this matter,” e explain.

Na heart wahala dem dey see as big issue wey dey cause many cardiac arrests for Naija, like high blood pressure, diabetes, and lifestyle wey no dey favor health like smoking and lack of exercise.
