Dis agreement na serious matter o, e happen for Abuja, and both agencies describe am as big step to balance data regulation wey dey affect all of us wey dey live for di country. As NDPC boss, Vincent Olatunji talk am, dis partnership na answer to citizens’ right to protect dem personal data.
Olatunji chook mouth say, “When you give out your data, na so you don put am for person wey fit use am anyhow, so we go make sure say our people sabi wetin dem go do with di information wey dem dey share.” Na wetin be data controller, small-small business and everybody wey dey collect and use data, dem suppose know say dem get laws wey dem go follow make sure say we dey safe.
He remind us say Nigeria don dey waka for dis data protection matter since 2019 and e finally mature as law don drop since June 2023. If dem no collaborate with telecom regulators, e go hard to manage dem data matter, wey be wetin Olatunji also confirm.
NCC Executive Vice-Chairman, Aminu Maida still yarn as e present at di MoU signing. E talk say telecommunication sector don grow from mere 500,000 telephone lines to nearly 200 million lines, so dem dey handle plenty personal data for dis matter.
“Na dis data go drive wetin dem dey call new tech era, and we suppose make sure say our people dem fit control wetin dem dey do with dem data. If dem no sabi, na so people go carry dem data do wetin e no suppose do,” Maida declare.
Maida warning say if dem no manage dis data matter well, e fit put our national security for wahala. “Future na for data, if we no fit manage am well, even as we dey fit talk about sovereignty, fit dey shaky,” na wetin him talk.
As if no be enough, dem still talk about how other sectors like agriculture and finance suppose collaborate too, but na dis data protection matter be big gist right now. Na true say e no easy, but wey ting go fit happen wey no dey to connect telecom e-commerce matter to ensure say every Nigerian dey safe for dem online activities.
