As the Nigeria Data Protection Act of 2023 don land, regulators don sharpen their cutlass, dey license people wey go dey manage data, dey monitor how dem dey handle our personal info. Dem don license 307 Data Protection Compliance Organisations, plus register 38,677 data controllers and processors wey dey pilot matter for the system. Na serious step up wey show say dem fit control wetin dey happen.

Dem talk say over 8,155 compliance audit returns don land from public and private sectors. Talk true, e be like say dem dey collect information like say na gold wey just land for ground! Dem also don conclude 246 investigations for privacy breach matter for the country, fit you believe am? At the end, dem don take action wey lead to 11 enforcement actions including fines wey go make anybody wey dey play fast games shake.

One of the high-profile cases na when MultiChoice Nigeria shele for July 2025, dem slap dem N766.2 million fine for unlawful transfer of subscriber data. Fidelity Bank too no dey left behind, dem chop N555.8 million fine for improper data processing. All these fines don yield N5.2 billion as compliance revenue wey dem don give federal government, even as dem no dey intended to dey generate money.

Dr. Vincent Olatunji, wey be NDPC’s National Commissioner, talk say dem figures show say dem dey really serious about enforcement.
