No be small matter o! The Federal Government, through the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), don gree say dem go run six-month remediation program for all those foreign-trained medical and dental graduates wey their studies jam for 2022 Ukraine war and 2023 Sudan wahala.
Dis remediation program no be play, e go help affected graduates enter the Nigerian healthcare system wella. But make you no forget say each person wey wan apply go need to drop N1.2 million, and no be say na dat alone. Dental graduates still dey pay extra N100,000 to buy their dental materials. Chai! No be joke!
According to wetin we see for the memo wey dey fly around, the program go start for February 16, 2026, and e go end for August 14, 2026, for University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for Gwagwalada, Abuja. As Nigeria dey take medical education serious, remember say before now, MDCN don already talk say dem no go fit recognize any medical or dental degree wey dem gather online during the war. Dem don advise students make dem transfer to accredited schools.
Dem talk say online training no dey meet the standard wey dem dey look for. E go better make you no dey try am because if you try, e go just waste your time. For 2024, the Senate don urge MDCN make dem no discriminate against those wey study for Ukraine and Sudan. But this time around, na serious level we dey talk about.
In the memo wey dem release for January 26, 2026, MDCN come tell all those foreign-trained graduates say dem dey organize dis six-month remediation program. Na im go help dem update their knowledge and skills so e fit align with wetin dey required for medical practice for Naija. But no forget, online coursework and unregulated ‘clinical rotation in home country’ no dey gree o!
To make dem fit participate, graduates go need to submit photocopy of their credentials, wey include GCE, SSCE, NECO or even wetin dem fit use as replacement. Dem gree say make you get at least five credit passes for English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, and no be more than two sittings. Also, dem go need your medical or dental degree certificate and your international passport pages.
As e be, the N1.2 million fee no include accommodation and feeding. So if you dey plan to apply, make you sabi say you go gree find your own place to stay and chop. The council talk say this way no wan be hair-splitting affair; na final call wey dem don put for table for those wey no fit complete their training because of the conflicts. Application go dey take case-by-case, so hold your fingers crossed.
Dey say to run show for this program, participants go need to maintain 75 percent attendance to fit qualify for the assessment exam. Some graduates wey dey affected don talk say dem dey appreciate wetin MDCN dey do, but dem still dey beg make no discrimination happen. One of dem even talk say, “Ukraine dey produce fine medical graduates, but since the war start, we don dey face wahala. We thank MDCN for this opportunity wey go fit help us enter the system for Naija.”
