No be small matter o! Lagos State Government don come out, yan say dem go upgrade their drainage wey dey everywhere for the state. Na wetin the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, tok say as he dey do inspection for different drainage projects. E mention say after the heavy rain wey land this new year, e clear say climate change no be joke.
Wahab talk say dem gatz take action quick-quick after dem hear say some people dey encroach on the System 46 drainage. If dem no check am early, e fit mess up the alignment and cause wahala for Ikota River later. “We go continue our advocacy and upgrade wetin we fit for public benefit,” he talk.
As rain no gree stop since December come January, Wahab don confirm say dem don give stop-work order to the people wey dey encroach. Dem go put signpost make everybody know say dem no suppose dey work for that area again.
Dem still get gist about some flooding for Mobil, Ikota area. Wahab remind us say two years back, dem don clear some obstruction for System 44 alignment. Now, contractor dey work to remove water for that side, make everywhere dry. “Dem don dam both upstream and downstream to allow contractor carry out their work. Dem dey push make everything finish because dem still get 800 metres to wrap up everything at both upstream and downstream,” e add.
Wahab no rest there, e also visit Ikate where government don award contract for concrete lining and pumping station to make sure that area no dey flood again. Some other areas wey dem visit include Ogombo Road, LSDPC Treasure Estate, and all the way to Kusenla Drainage Channel. Wahala wey dey ground, we go see how dem go tackle am before e turn different matter!
