For public notice wey dem release from January 21, 2026, LIRS, wey get Mr Ayodele Subair as the big boss, don yarn say dem go use banks, employers, tenants, and anybody wey dey hold money for your hand to recover tax wey you no pay. Dis one na serious matter, my guy!
According to di LIRS, dem dey use wetin dem call Section 60 of di Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025, to make am clear say if you no settle your tax bill, e fit be your employer or even your neighbor wey go pay am for you. Na so dem dey call am ‘power of substitution.’
If person wey dey hold your money receive dis substitution notice, dem go need to pay di amount wey dey inside di paper straight to LIRS. No wahala, e get law wey say if you no pay, dem go fit wahala you with fines and even prosecution!
LIRS dey target all di big taxes like Personal Income Tax (PIT), Capital Gains Tax (CGT), Stamp Duties, and Withholding Tax (WHT). Abeg, if you dey owe any of these, now na di time to find your accountant make you do di needful before dem start to shake you.
For di process, once dem give you substitution notice, you no get choice, you must remit di money wey dem talk. If you no get money on your side, you gatz write LIRS make dem sabi say you no hold or owe anybody wey fit help dem collect from you. No be say you go just dey sit down de dodge wey dem fit find you!
LIRS don talk say make everybody dey play by di rules, if you get any objection, you get 30 days to file am after you don receive di notice. Omo, e no go better for you if you no comply, penalties dey wait for you like bad belle friends!
Na wetin dem dey try do na to make sure say people go dey pay wetin dem suppose pay and help di state do better things, but wey you go do as stubborn tax payer go still face di consequences. So, make we all dey mind our tax business before dem come for us, no be so!
