Abubakar Ibrahim, wey be NSE Sokoto Chairman, talk am well during wetin dem call project inspection tour on Thursday. E come lead the team wey include Abdullahi Tanko-Yakasai, wey dey work with President Bola Tinubu, plus Ahmad Abdullahi from Ministry of Works. Ibrahim wey be also Director General for Sokoto State Rural Access Agency, talk say this superhighway na big sign say President Tinubu dey serious to better our lives, especially for those wey dey live for rural areas.
‘Communities wey dem don cut off before go now get big chances,’ na wetin Ibrahim talk. E add say the quality of work wey dem don do go make sure this road serve us well for long time. Dem don replace all the early doubts wey people get with hope and sweet promises.
Dr. Abdurrahman Umar, wey be Secretary of the Coalition of NGOs for Sokoto, don join for the gist too, e talk say this project na landmark investment wey go boost socio-economic activity all over Nigeria. The highway wey fit connect seven states, sabi as e go transform our economy from north to south. Na international standard dem use build am o!
Chika Abbas, wey be Deputy Director for Civil Engineering at Ministry of Works, also follow talk, say this project dey complement wetin government dey do to improve infrastructure and rural accessibility. Local communities dey happy as Halliru Alfada, one resident talk say this road go make am easy to carry farm produce and support dry-season farming. E talk say, ‘We dey struggle anytime rain fall, but this new road go help us move our harvests easily and reach market.’
Other residents too dey feel am, Maude Aliyu yan say this superhighway dey link many farming communities like Katami, Alfada, Kabin Kaji, Gumbaye, Burgu, Gadanbe, Gidan Gara and Silame. The Project Manager for HITECH Construction Company, Johon Fourie, don praise the locals wey dey cooperate with dem, say dem don carry people from the area as part of the work so that everybody go fit benefit.
Work dey go on for six different sites at once, as dem don start laying the concrete pavements, installing solar lights and plenty more things wey dey give joy. Kassimu Maigwandu, the Federal Controller of Works for Sokoto, come drop some sweet information say 120km of this project clear for Sokoto State. ‘E go get six-lane concrete carriageway, bridges, solar lights, even CCTV systems for security and health posts for emergency response,’ na wetin he talk. E no be only road, but na catalyst wey go boost agriculture, tourism, education, and trade!
Tanko-Yakasai no forget to mention say na this vision wey dey for ground since late President Shehu Shagari time for 1980s, now we dey see am materialize under President Tinubu. E also hail Minister of Works, David Umahi, for the four flagship road and rail corridor projects wey dem dey carry on across geopolitical zones. The ministry don come list all the projects, from the 750km Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road to the 482km Trans-Saharan Road.
The 1,068km Sokoto–Badagry superhighway wey dem don unveil since October 24, 2024, na part of the Renewed Hope Agenda wey dem get to boost infrastructure and make our economy competitive again. As we dey eye this project, Tanko-Yakasai and Muhammed Nasir from Nigeria Union of Journalists don also join ground to unveil completed emergency road repairs on the Sokoto–Jega–Birnin Kebbi corridor wey federal government don execute last year.
