My people, make we yan about this wan wey dey happen for Naija! As Nigeria dey increase population like ‘surulere’ rice and beans, our waste don dey rise too. United Nations talk say by 2025, we go get over 237 million people for Naija! Dis na wah!
World Bank don tell us say we dey produce over 32 million tonnes of solid waste every year. E be like say na time for our city authorities and private people to put their heads together to come up with beta waste management plans! No be joke o, my guys!
One of the baddest plans wey don land na EPR—Extended Producer Responsibility wey dem launch for 2014. Na who sabi dis thing go tell you say dis policy don help bring about Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA) for 2018, na im be di first Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO) wey dey handle food and drinks waste.
As at November 2025, FBRA don grow from just four members to 49 strong players wey dey work together to recover plastic waste wey dey scatter for ground. Dem don waka collect over 100,000 metric tonnes of plastic waste—no be small feat o! Dem dey try show say waste no be bad thing, but we fit turn am to resources for our economy.
Victoria Uwadoka wey dey do PR work for Nestlé Nigeria talk say even if FBRA no be wetin plenty people sabi like that, di impact wey dem dey create dey clear for clean communities and beta lives for waste collectors, especially for Lagos.
Nestlé Nigeria no just be one of di biggest food companies for Naija, dem dey take environmental concern serious too. Dem dey think about Earth and People, no be just profit matter. As di matter be, dem don dey lead di fight to clean our environment.
FBRA no dey sham; e don help Nestlé to start plenty innovations wey dey ginger our recovery game. Like dis December 2023, dem talk say Nestlé don achieve 100% plastic neutrality! Dis mean say anything wey dem use plastic dey sell, dem don recover am back. Na wetin dem call commitment to circular economy na im fit dako like this!
Plus, dem don also become di first company wey dey put 50% recycled plastic for their Nestlé Pure Life water bottles. Dis one no be small move o! Dis na confirm tori wey dey follow standards wey the food authority don set. E fit be say many other companies no fit meet up, but Nestlé dey try maintain their game!
Through FBRA matter, Nestlé and di rest don turn dis waste talk to jam, transform, and give jobs. Dem dey make sure say plastics no go just dey on street dey rot, but dem dey recover am, turn am to other things. As Victoria go talk, “We no dey produce plastic to scatter, na we all go recover am, create better jobs dey come.”
Closing di loop na di main gist. Nobody wan see plenty bottles dey swim for sea. As long as dem dey find a way to collect, transform, and reuse, we dey make sense for our environment.
Di partnership wey dey happen between FBRA and Nestlé dey show wetin collaboration fit do for our environment! With all di effort wey dem don put together, dem dey challenge waste wahala for Naija, plus dey push global sustainability targets. Na real work dey happen, and we fit all jump inside to make Naija cleaner!
