NECA, NSITF dey push safety for workplace make we no dey jam accident

My people, Naija no go gree make workplace safety waka pass like that o! Na so NECA and NSITF don join hand dey push for our safety for workplace, as dem talk say plenty workers dey face injury wey fit even lead to death wey dem fit avoid.

Last Friday for Abuja, dem gather everybody for one big press conference wey dem use shine light on this matter as dem dey prepare for Safe Workplace Intervention Project (SWIP) 2025. Dis project no be play matter; na serious initiative wey suppose make workplace better for all of us.

Omo, dem don audit about 200 companies wey dey different geopolitical zones last year. If you sabi any company wey dey shine for safety matter, five ambulances and other safety equipment go dey wait for dem as reward during the award ceremony wey dey come soon.

Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, the Director-General of NECA, don talk say safety no be joke. E dey tell us say health and safety don become human rights matter wey everybody suppose take serious, no be play play again. “Labour no be commodity; dem get human heart wey dey do the work!”

As dem dey talk this thing, Oyerinde still remind us say e get plenty wahala wey dey occur for workplace wey people no dey see. E dey mention remote work, AI, and the kind accidents wey dey happen for house. E talk say careless mindset fit follow us from house go office, and na dat one dey cause yawa sometimes.

E add say dem dey lack knowledge, and many people no dey see simple hazards wey fit turn serious wahala later. “Even chair fit carry wahala for long term, na awareness dey important,” Na wetin Oyerinde talk. Make una dey reason am well, no be say only NECA members dey follow standard o!

Any employee wey no fit talk when things no dey safe, dem don join for the wahala too. “Safety na personal responsibility. We go address unsafe practices, no be to close eye,” Oyerinde talk make we sabi.

The audit process wey NECA and NSITF dey carry out go come show how companies take dey comply with safety policies, and many of them dey for average level wey fit show say we need boost. Some get policy, but no dey implement, some get plan but no dey prepare for emergency.

Oluwaseun Faleye, wey na the Managing Director/CEO of NSITF, don talk say SWIP na key tool wey go help push private sector compliance with safety law. E dey remind us say the Employees’ Compensation Act dey strong, but e no go work well if people no engage. Collaboration go always dey effective!

On top this matter, dem go kick off 2025 SWIP activities for Lagos on January 20, go follow Enugu, and end for Abuja grand finale on January 27. Faleye talk say, “Recognition and awards dey encourage compliance, and media dey important for spreading this awareness.”

Permanent Secretary for Labour and Employment, Salihu Usman, don commend NECA and NSITF for the work wey dem dey do, say na model of collaboration. E also talk say the ministry dey involved to make sure everything dey align with best practices for safety.
