My people, make we yan about wetin dey happen for our power sector, no be small matter oh! NERC just drop news wey dey show say electricity distribution companies (DisCos) gather N1.13tn from January to September 2025, despite say we still dey complain of low power supply and plenty blackouts.
This money wey Dem collect no be play o! But e no match wetin dem suppose produce, as national power grid gree collapse and people dey waka in darkness like say na night market. Power generation companies (GenCos) too dey face serious wahala as gas supply don drop, for this matter wey dey linked to unpaid debts. E be like say we dey play ‘who go collect pass’.
For Q3, NERC confirm say all DisCos collect N570.25bn from N706.61bn wey dem bill customers, dey show say collection efficiency don rise to 80.70 per cent. If you check Q2 stats, you go see say dem collect N564.71bn from N742.34bn wey dem bill at seriously low 76.07 per cent. Abeg, na wetin una go call this kind increase? Na serious progress, or na just sweet talk?
Ikeja DisCo sabi shine for their performance, as dem record 100% collection efficiency. Others wey run for up level na Eko, Benin, and Abuja with good performance like 88.74%, 86.44%, and 81.60% respectively. But Kaduna DisCo no fit shine, dem dey lag behind with 45.67% efficiency. Abeg, wetin happen to them?
As dis Q3 chale dey reach, we see some light for revenue collection wey jump from N564.67bn in Q2 to N570.28bn in Q3. E be like say the customers gree pay bill small small, while power na still wahala. September alone provide N192.29bn, wey dey show say dem dey try stabilise small.
Di figures no fit lie, but collection efficiency still get wahala with estimated billing, energy theft, and other wahalas wey dey happen around. NERC dey shout say make DisCos do better metering, so that dem fit see where the money waka go. Customers wey no get meter dey suffer for that trend, and NERC don already take steps to help rectify the matter.
Dem don approve Meter Acquisition Fund, wey don help install 107,461 new meters wey fit benefit Band A customers wey dey shine small. E no go end for here, as N28bn dey ready for the next round of metering. DisCos go dey work towards metering our people well because, at the end of the day, na everybody go benefit.
