Initially, dem talk say na 25 people die, but as dem dey recover more bodies from the river, e don increase to 29. The Executive Secretary of Yobe Emergency Management Agency, Mohammad Goje, na him drop the update on Monday.
According to am, dem don recover four more bodies, and search o dey continue for about 8 to 10 passengers wey still dey missing. Make we no forget say dem treat 13 injured persons and dem don discharge dem from hospital.
Comot for that gist, Goje talk say the wahala wey cause the capsize na overloading and structural problems for the boat. E don make sense when Governor Mai Mala Buni call on the agency to talk to federal agencies about wetin dem fit do to make water transportation safe for everyone.
Him talk say if dem fit enforce life jackets for anybody wey wan enter canoe, e go better. The boat wey dey cause all this palava take off from Adiyani in Jigawa before e capsize for Yobe River around 7:48 p.m. on Saturday. Reports say over 50 passengers dey onboard, most of dem na farmers and traders.
Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) don send team to Nguru to help with the rescue operations. Their Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, don express sympathy for the families wey lose their loved ones and pledge say dem go work with local authorities for better search efforts.
Governor Buni wey don condole with the families talk say the incident na big loss for the state. Him don also direct the state emergency agency to give support to the victims families and step up rescue efforts. E don tell everybody to avoid overloading boats to prevent more tragedies.
