My people, make I gist you wetin dey happen for Naija dis days!
No be small wahala oo, as life for this our obodo Nigeria dey tough, but e still dey vibrant.
As I waka from Lagos to Kano and back, I come see say no two people for Naija dey experience life same. For Lagos, rent dey waka along with how we dey hustle. One bedroom fit cost you as high as ₦2 million per month, but for Northern cities, you fit get whole house with smaller money.
Take for instance, our sister, Mrs. Adebayo, wey dey earn ₦150,000 monthly. E no easy for am. After rent, food, and school fees for her pikin dem, she dey always broke. Na so many people dey struggle with power supply too. Naija no get steady light at all, and that one dey force people to buy generator and fuel wey cost plenty money.
Specta, if we talk about water, na another wahala. For many cities, water wey people fit use no dey. So, dem dey buy water from tanker wey go cost between ₦15,000 to ₦30,000 every month. Imagine!
And healthcare? E dey divide our people like say we get class. The rich go jet go India, while the poor dey manage public hospitals wey no get basic medicine. Una no go like am at all.
Plus school fees dey launch rocket too! Private school fit cost you ₦300,000 to ₦1 million for just one child! And dem public schools? Dem dey forget academic standard. But no wahala! Parents still dey find means to make sure their children go school.
Now, make we talk transportation. Lagos traffic na like small war front! A 10-kilometre trip fit turn to two hours. People dey spend as much as 20-30% of their income just to waka from one place to another. You go ask ‘wetin dey happen for Naija?’ E big, my brother!
But hope no dey far. Nigeria dey carry that strong spirit wey dey make us dey hustle. 133 million of our people dey live under poverty line, but you go see market dey burst with goods, and ideas dey plenty from entrepreneurs.
As it dey go now, the economy dey face serious wahala. Fuel subsidy removal don send inflation sky-high. End of last year, naira don scatter, flying from ₦450 to over ₦1,750 for dollar. Imagine how e go affect small businesses! Even basic food prices don steep rise; rice wey be ₦25,000, now e dey dance around ₦95,000. Wetin you dey chop? You still fit survive?
Security dey followed with wahala for every region. For Northeast, Boko Haram still dey terrorize people. Northwest don turn kidnapping centre while Southeast dey fight separatist issues too. It dey hard to move carefree as you go always think, ‘where I fit waka go for safety?’
Omo, Nigeria dey shine for creativity. From jollof rice wey dey gather fight pass to all those fantastic beats wey dey make us dey move our body, our culture dey bring joy no matter the situation. Na so we dey roll!
No matter the wahala, we still dey push make things better as family and friends dey come through for each other. We dey find way to cope!
The serious answer to ‘wetin life dey like for Nigeria?’ go depend on you and wetin you fit give or how you fit hustle go survive. Some dey live comfortable lives while majority dey fight for everyday survival. Despite am all, this our Naija na still home, and we dey find joy wey fit think say e go last!
