My people, make we yan about wetin dey happen for our Naija states. You fit believe say twenty states don drop N494 billion just for public debt service and foreign trips in less than ten months of 2025? E be like movie, but na real life oo!
According to budget palaver wey dem find from various states, Lagos, Oyo, Osun, and dem plenty others don dey chop this money anyhow. E no be small thing. This big chop get as e take be, because N446 billion na im go for servicing and repayment of loans, while N48 billion go for jetting around the world. Abeg, no be to travel na to serve the people dem supposed to focus on!
No forget say some states no fit meet their revenue targets for the first quarter 2025. Like Lagos, wey don use N26.8 billion pay both foreign and local debts. As e stand, Lagos dey spend more and still dey miss target wey reach N728.9 billion. Wetin be dis wahala?
For the third quarter, Lagos don increase im public debt charges to N87 billion, wey fit make person ask if dem wan use am buy new jet. For Naija wey plenty people dey suffer, wetin be N16.48 billion wey dem spend on traveling in nine months? Na vacation dem dey go or wetin?
Kaduna and Kogi don follow closely with N48.66 billion and N31.5 billion respectively on public debt, but na so dem don still manage to chop small N3.66 billion and N1.3 billion for foreign trips. Oyo, Adamawa, and Bayelsa dey sha steady for this ‘debt spending’ matter, wey Oyo drop N25.85 billion, Adamawa drop N24 billion, and Bayelsa don use N36 billion for this wetin we dey call neva-ending cycle of debt.
Other states too dey use dem own share of the pot: Osun don drop N17.75 billion, Ebonyi N11.9 billion, and Katsina N12.4 billion. Na so the money dey waka round like say na free cash. E dey pain me say while dem dey chop this kind money, our roads and hospitals still dey suffer!
We fit ask wetin make sense for our leaders if dem fit pay some gaji and make we begin do better for this country? Abeg, Nigerians, make we dey shine our eyes well-well, as we progress into the new year. Wetin you think? You fit drop your comments, make we sabi your own gist!
