Lagos, Nigeria – Na wetin we dey hear now? Naija big man, Aliko Dangote, don drop petrol price again like egg wey dem no go want make am spoil! Yesterday, him refinery sharp-sharply adjust di price of petrol to N699 per litre, from di previous N828. Na N129 difference be dat. E be like say this one go sweet many pipo for last-minute festive shopping, abi na lie?
Di news land yesterday, and e dey confirm say dis na part of di refinery effort to make sure domestic fuel price no dey chop Naija pipo money like before. Abubakar Garima, di National President of di Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), sha still yarn say dem don tell all di marketers make dem dey prepare to buy petrol at dis new price, as dem get festive season matter wey dey come up.
“Di refinery don reduce di price to N699 per litre,” Garima talk with confidence. But no be small matter – dis price reduction don bring petrol costs come close to wetin we see two years ago. E mean say we fit dey look forward to one of di biggest price cuts since dis refinery start di domestic supply wahala.
Aliko Dangote sef don confirm say e go keep reducing di prices so dat dem fit compete well against di imported fuel. E talk say, “Prices dey go down… we need to dey compete with imports.” E sure for me say dis man sabi di market well well, and he dey play di long game.
As if dat one no be enough, di Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) also follow suit, slashing their own petrol price to N900 for Lagos and N940 for Abuja. Na this kind competition wey we dey talk about – wetin you expect in this festive season?
Dis fresh cut come just five days after Dangote chitchat with President Bola Tinubu. E talk say dem go ensure say prices dey reasonable and things no go dey disturb customers reach dem neck. In fact, him talk say, “Another reason why prices go dey fall na because di smuggling don reduce small small – just dey watch am.” Smuggling wey we sabi sey dey chop di market like say na market day.
Bro, in this business game, Dangote no dey play like children. Him dey focus on di long-term strategy, no be quick cash. “We no dey rush,” he talk, “we dey plan to make am sustainable.”
Meanwhile, market no dey sleep o! Petroleumprice.ng don report say di private depots dey follow Dangote lead with some small small reductions across di board. Sigmund Depot reduce im price by N4 to N824 per litre, while Bulk Strategic cut down by N3. Some other no-name depots dey make small adjustments too. Dem no fit allow Dangote steal di whole show!
As e be now, Naija consumers suppose fit smile small as dem get hope for lighter pockets dis festive period. Na only one thing dey left, make we monitor if dem go stick to dis new price or we go see more wahala before we reach Christmas.
Jolly jolly time dey come, Naija! Make we grab our jerry cans and prepare for di ride!
