Four state governments for Nigeria don declare work-free or teaching-free day for Monday, October 5, 2026, to honour World Teachers’ Day. The states na Kwara, Ekiti, Akwa Ibom and Oyo. All of dem announced the decision on or before October 4, 2026. The day na annual commemoration wey UNESCO establish, and e dey observed on that date every year.

Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq declared October 5 as work-free day for teachers across the state. The announcement come through statement from Deputy Chief Press Secretary Mashood Abdulrafiu Agboola. The governor thank teachers for their contributions to human capital development and talk say him administration remain committed to their welfare. In the statement, the governor also extend best wishes to teachers across the length and breadth of the state. He thank dem for their efforts and resilience. He reassure teachers of commitment to their welfare and that of residents of the state. AbdulRazaq wish the teachers a more rewarding and prosperous service to humanity.
For Ekiti, Governor Biodun Oyebanji declaration come through Commissioner for Education, Dr Olabimpe Aderiye. She talk say teachers suppose free to take part fully in World Teachers’ Day activities. Day students for public schools were asked to stay home. Parents, guardians and school authorities were told to make necessary arrangements.
Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno declare October 5 as teaching-free day across the state. All public primary and secondary schools for the state remain closed so teachers fit attend the state World Teachers’ Day celebrations. Part of the plan na gathering at Uyo Township Stadium.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde also declare public holiday for the state on October 5 in recognition of the occasion.
