Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, don talk say him no dey fear the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Him make dis statement on Tuesday during the National Cybercrimes Summit wey EFCC organize in collaboration with the European Union-funded Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA).
Lawal say people wey dem elect into leadership positions supposed to be accountable and transparent. Him add say, “I am not scared of the EFCC. Why would I be scared of the EFCC? We’re here to serve, and this is the way forward. People should be accountable. People should be transparent. That is the way. That’s leadership.”
The governor also talk say him no know anything about the suit wey some of his colleagues bring against EFCC. But him say him ready to give him support to the commission, especially now wey Nigeria dey face many negative challenges related to cybercrime.
Lawal emphasize say, “I’m hearing this for the first time about the suit, and that’s the truth. So I don’t know what it contains. I can’t comment on that…. But my coming here is also to give my support to the commission, especially at a time like this when Nigeria is facing many negative challenges related to cybercrime.”
Danladi Plang, the Head of the Programme of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), also talk during the summit. Him say as technology dey progress, reliance on it dey increase, and dis one dey increase cybercrime. Him suggest say instead of just arresting, trying, convicting and imprisoning people, Nigeria should think of other ways to channel the energies and skills of youth in using technology to prevent cybercrime.
