Zambia vs Chad: Chipolopolo Aim for Victory in AFCON Qualifiers

Zambia and Chad clashed on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zambia, in a crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match. The Copper Bullets, led by coach Avram Grant, were looking to build on their previous win against Sierra Leone and strengthen their qualifying hopes.

Zambia, ranked 93rd in the world, started their campaign with a 2-0 loss to Ivory Coast but then secured a narrow 3-2 win over Sierra Leone, thanks to an 85th-minute winner from Kings Kangwa. This victory placed them second in Group G, behind Ivory Coast who have a perfect record so far.

The Zambian squad for this match included 25 players, with Denmark-based Lubambo Musonda as the captain. New faces in the squad include defensive pair David Bulaya and Peter Kalota, as well as Israel-based Chipyoka Songa, who are yet to earn their maiden caps for Zambia.

On the other hand, Chad, under coach Kevin Nicaise, were seeking their first win of the campaign. Les Sao drew 0-0 with Sierra Leone and then lost 2-0 to Ivory Coast, leaving them at the bottom of the group standings with just one point and a goal difference of -2.

This match marked only the third encounter between the two teams, with Zambia winning 2-0 in one of their previous meetings and the other ending in a 1-1 draw during the 2008 AFCON qualifiers. Zambia were favored to win, given their recent form and home advantage.
