Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) don warn Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to immediately withdraw him threat to arrest beggars in Abuja. SERAP say if Wike no withdraw the threat, dem go take am to court.
According to SERAP, the threat to arrest beggars dey against the law and dey violate the rights of the beggars. Dem say no one suppose be arrested just because dem dey beg for money on the streets.
This warning come after Wike give order that all beggars must leave Abuja and set a deadline for forceful eviction. SERAP dey argue say this kind of order no dey in line with human rights and the law of the land.
SERAP dey call on Wike to focus on addressing the root causes of begging, like poverty and lack of opportunities, instead of just trying to force the beggars out of the city.
