The Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Sule Abdulaziz, don talk say e no fair for Nigerians to dey blame TCN officials every time the national grid fail to supply power. Abdulaziz make this statement when he appear as guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday.
Abdulaziz react to calls from electricity consumers across the country who dey ask for the dismissal of officers wey dey manage the national grid, following the grid collapse on Saturday morning. This be the second grid collapse for the week and the seventh for 2024.
But Abdulaziz insist say even though TCN dey in charge of the grid, there be other important factors people often fail to consider. He say, “Before explaining further, let me just say the grid didn’t collapse three times in October. We had grid disturbances only two times. I think the first was on Monday and the second yesterday (Saturday). There was news that the grid collapsed again on Tuesday. That one was incorrect.”
Abdulaziz also explain say the transmission system need a lot of investments. He say, “For so many years in this country, that sector was neglected. Most of the equipment we are using is over 40 to 50 years old. So it is not possible for that equipment to work perfectly.”
He emphasize say system collapses no necessarily originate from TCN. “If there is a system collapse, it doesn’t mean all the problems are from TCN, it can be from generation, it can be from transmission it can be from distribution. Some of these can also come from disaster. You cannot say it is the fault of the TCN just like that,” he say.
