Senate komiti don dey make promise to bring Ajaokuta steel plant back to life after years of being idle. On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, members of the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals, Steel Development and Metallurgy visit the steel plant with one goal in mind: to find out why the plant no dey work despite being built many years ago.
The committee chairperson talk say dem come with firm commitment to uncover the reasons behind the plant’s non-operation. Dem want to know why the plant, which suppose be one of the biggest steel plants in Africa, no dey produce steel.
The Ajaokuta steel plant, wey start construction for 1979, suppose be a major source of employment and economic growth for Nigeria. But over the years, the plant no dey function properly due to various challenges including lack of funding, corruption, and mismanagement.
The Senate committee say dem go work hard to ensure that the plant start working again and contribute to the country’s economic development. Dem also promise to hold those responsible for the plant’s current state accountable.
