Rice Price Don Shake For Lagos Market, E Dey Sweet Consumers

Lagos, Nigeria – E be like say rice price don take serious chill pill for Lagos markets, as we dey see plenty rice wey no dey cost as before. This price drop na due to the reopening of our land borders, wey don bring flood of rice from abroad and local farms join am.

According to reports, one 50kg bag of rice dey sell now for between ₦55,000 and ₦70,000, depending on the brand and market. Trader dem wey talk to reporters no sabi if dem go laugh or cry, as consumers dey jubilate while dem dey count losses. I no go lie, di price drop fit make person feel like dem win lottery. (Na rice lottery we dey play now?)

For market like Oyingbo, Arena (Oshodi), and Mile 12, na so dem talk say local rice wey dey cost ₦85,000 now dey go for ₦60,000 to ₦70,000. Foreign rice wey used to dey ₦95,000 don fall reach ₦65,000 to ₦75,000. E no be joke, na serious business.

Mrs. Precious Okoro wey dey sell rice for Arena Market talk say di sudden price fall don scatter her business plan. “I don buy bags for ₦80,000 and ₦85,000, now I dey sell for ₦65,000. Na wetin I go do now?” she dey vex. (Abeg, make government find solution for this wahala, because this one no sweet at all!)

Another retailer, Mrs. Edith Nwaruh from FESTAC Town Market, say since August, rice don begin dey plenty for market because of good harvest and imported rice. “Na so rice dey show face for market, prices dey drop. Na real life we dey live now,” she talk.

Mr. Odion Michael, another rice trader, carry mentality wey dey light say e be double-edged sword. “Consumers dey smile, but we dey suffer for back. Stable prices go help everybody.” (Talk am again, my brother, we all need stability for this rice matter.)

E go shock you say one rice farmer wey wan keep im name private talk say di fall na because of all dis imports. E even warn say if supply come drop again before festive season, prices fit rise again. Na so e be, we dey waka on this rice rollercoaster.

Consumer dem dey sing praises, like Mrs. Andriana Okoromaro, wey dey hail di price drop. “Now I fit buy full bag instead of half. Rice na essential for my house!” she shout. (If na Christmas we dey enter, we all need this rice matter make sense!)

But no be all wey dey happy. Mrs. Ngozi Okolie, another buyer, remind us say even though rice don cheap, pockets still dey flat for this economy. “People no fit buy in bulk because economy dey red,” she sigh. (True talk, my sister.)

As rice traders dey calculate wetin dem go lose, consumers for Lagos dey hope say this new price trend go stay. E go bless plenty families if dis drop fit continue, especially as we dey approach festive season. Lemme drop this here: we need rice wey no go make our wallet scream, and we need am sharp-sharp!
