Russian President Vladimir Putin and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan meet for important talks ahead of the BRICS summit in Kazan. On Sunday, October 20, Putin welcomed the UAE President for an informal dinner at his residence in Novo-Ogaryovo to discuss several critical issues.
The two leaders focused on the situation in Ukraine, with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressing his readiness to support efforts to find peace. He praised Russia‘s role in facilitating prisoner exchanges with Ukraine and highlighted the UAE’s ongoing mediation in humanitarian issues and war prisoner exchanges.
Their official talks, held on October 21 at the Grand Kremlin Palace, covered a wide range of topics including trade, energy, infrastructure, transport, and international affairs. Despite a threefold increase in mutual trade over the past three years, there has been a slight decline in the past seven months, which they agreed to address through separate working groups.
The UAE President also commended the historical and strategic relationship between Russia and the UAE, particularly since the declaration of their strategic partnership in 2018. He noted significant growth in trade, from $2.5 billion in 2018 to over $11 billion last year, and expressed the UAE’s commitment to achieving even higher figures.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan thanked Putin for Russia’s contribution to sending an Emirati cosmonaut into space and praised Russia’s efforts during its chairmanship of BRICS. The UAE supports the creation of a multipolar world and is committed to cooperation within various international formats, including BRICS, SCO, and OPEC+.
