Police Warn Against Sit-At-Home Protest For Biafra Launch in Southeast Nigeria

Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, don warn residents of Enugu State to ignore call for two-day sit-at-home protest wey one group claim say dem dey launch Biafran armoured vehicles. The group announce say dem go do sit-at-home protest across five South Eastern states, plus parts of Delta, Rivers, and Kogi states, for Monday, October 21, and Tuesday, October 22.

Commissioner Uzuegbu say in statement on Sunday that residents should no mind “criminally minded viral video from unidentified individual advising them to sit-at-home on Monday, 21st, and Tuesday, 22nd October 2024”. He describe the advice as baseless, unwarranted, and deliberate attempt to incite fear and unrest in the state.

Uzuegbu encourage citizens to continue with their lawful activities without fear or intimidation, assuring them that police, in collaboration with other security agencies, dey fully prepared to maintain peace and security across the state. He warn say any individuals or groups wey try to disrupt public order go be ruthlessly dealt with.

Police for Aba Area Command also embark on show of force operation within the commercial city and its environs on Saturday. The operation involve Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and other units of the Nigeria Police under Aba Area Command. This show of force dey to assure Aba residents of their safety following the social media threat by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
