Policemen for Federal Capital Territory (FCT) don vow to crack down on scavengers, wey dem dey call ‘Baba Bola’, who dey destroy government infrastructure for Abuja.
The Commissioner of Police for FCT, Tunji Disu, warn scavengers to stop destroying government properties or face the full wrath of the law. Disu talk dis during an unannounced visit to scavengers’ colonies in FCT on Wednesday.
Scavengers don damage many streetlights and remove manholes, among other government assets across Abuja. Disu tell market leaders that anyone wey dey aid scavengers in destroying government infrastructure, either by buying or selling stolen materials, no go be spared.
“Destroying government infrastructure na sabotage. Anyone wey dem arrest go face the full wrath of the law. We don start collaborate with our sister agencies, and we all agree to ensure say dis thing come to an end. It no go be business as usual. Those wey want to sabotage government infrastructure and steal properties—anything made of iron or wires belonging to individuals—they will have us to contend with,” Disu say.
The Chairman of the Gwarinpa Pantaker Association, Bashir Lawal, promise to cooperate with the new Commissioner of Police, as he pledge to report any of his members with questionable behaviour to the police.
