Lafia, Nasarawa State – The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Olakunle Nafiu, don shine light on how dem go protect the integrity of NYSC scheme. Dis vow come during di opening ceremony of di 2025 Batch ‘B’ Pre-Orientation Course Workshop for dem corps members on Wednesday.
Nafiu yarn say dem get plenty challenges wey dey face dem for some states, but dem no go allow am stop the successful orientation exercises wey dem dey do all over di country. He dey talk under di theme, “Maintaining the Integrity of the Orientation Course in the Face of Competing Interests”. Na serious matter o! (E be like say dem wan turn orientation into wrestling match!)
According to di DG, dis Pre-Orientation Course workshop na di platform wey NYSC management and other key stakeholders go fit review past orientation courses. Dem wan make am better for di future. He talk say, “E dey very important wey we dey always improve di content of orientation course to fit prepare corps members for di huge work wey dey ahead of dem in nation building.” (After all, we no want make dem enter di field without proper toolbox!)
Nafiu go on to say di theme dey relevant as e go remind everybody of di shared responsibility to protect di orientation programme against negative influences. E wan make sure say dem maintain discipline and patriotism, as these values na wetin wey dey build our nation. E dey necessary, no be play! (No be jolly jolly matter, brother!)
Di DG also talk about di importance of collaboration with partners and stakeholders. E thank Nasarawa State Government for di support wey dem dey give corps members and also appreciate di Federal Government for di youth-friendly policies. E no go forget how quickly dem dey release funds e go ensure di smooth running of di programme. Na wetin we dey call ‘good governance’!
On top dat one, di Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, come declare di workshop open. He remind everybody say NYSC don dey important part of Nigeria’s development since 1973 under General Yakubu Gowon. He said di work wey NYSC dey do for community development, healthcare, and public policy dey earn dem praise for both inside di country and abroad. (No be small work, dem fit even collect Grammy if dem fit!)
He further stress di need for support from all stakeholders so say di scheme go continue to prosper for all di sectors wey concern our national economy. He talk say, “NYSC na cornerstone of our collective aspirations.” Na wetin him talk make sense, because wetin we go do without di youth?
