One group under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Youth Frontier, don dey insist say the next National Chairman of the party must come from the North-Central zone. Dis call come as the party dey face serious crisis over who go succeed the current Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.
The group argue say the selection of the party’s National Chairman no suppose be exclusive to Benue State alone, but rather it should be a broader approach that involve the entire North-Central zone. Dem believe say dis way, the party go get more balanced and inclusive leadership.
Former Senate President, Senator David Mark, and former Governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Suswam, are among those who dey jostle for the position of the PDP National Chairman. Another contender, Iyorchia Ayu‘s successor, also dey in the mix as the party governors prepare to meet on Monday to discuss the party’s crisis and the way forward.
Meanwhile, former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, don clear the air say he no dey aspire to be the PDP National Chairman. He react to a media report that link him to the position and the suspension of some party leaders. Fayose emphasize say he no part of the ongoing drama in the party and he no interest in any political office again.
The PDP crisis deepen as different factions of the National Working Committee suspend each other’s members for alleged disloyalty and anti-party activities. However, the Abuja Federal High Court don restrain the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Board of Trustees (BoT) from removing Umar Damagum as the Acting National Chairman until the national convention next year.
