Credible records, progressive politics behind Ayu’s supports — Dingyadi

The credibility and detrabalised progressive politics being played by the National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Dr Iyorchia Ayu, is key to his political success.

Malam Yusuf Dingyadi, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications to Ayu, made the remark in an interview with newsmen on Sunday in Sokoto.

Dingyadi said Ayu had been a trusted ally of politicians, academics, focused individuals, business community and other categories of people from all parts of the country, the reason for his acceptability.

He explained that Ayu’s position as the party head would surely strengthen the chances of the party to win 2023 elections.

” Ayu’s trusted credibility has been the bedrock of his widespread political support in the country, ” Dingyadi said.

The Media Aide cautioned Nigerians against being misguided by some elements that capitalise on ethnic and religious divisions in politics to cause disagreements with the party system and national politics.

According to him, peace and stability of Nigeria as a nation should be sacrosanct, and condemned the activities of some groups sponsoring political agitations against Ayu’s PDP leadership.

” Nigerians should always stay away from comedians, who play television politics, in attempt to showcase thier strength and decapitate party unity for selfishness.

” The PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), National Executive Committee (NEC), stakeholders have unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Ayu to continue as a chairman; there’s no reason behind certain lamentation and mischief.

” This effort is in recognition of track records and initiatives which placed the party in a strong pedestal and reawakening of our political popularity in the country.

“ We therefore appeal to our members to remain focused, disciplined and committed with a view to taking our party to victory in 2023.“ The party is well acceptable in all the 36 States of the Federation, with full hope to take the country to the promised land that would also ensure peace and unity among the citizens.

    ” Dingyadi said.

He stressed that removing Ayu would create constitutional crisis for the party which would snowball into greater problems than what the party was currently facing.

2023: Atiku will get 65 per cent of  Benue’s votes, says party chieftain

A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) says the party’s Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, will get 65 per cent of Benue State votes.

Chila, who is a grassroots mobiliser expressed the optimism while speaking with newsmen on Sunday in Abuja.

He said that in spite Gov. Samuel Ortom’s support for his Rivers counterpart, Gov. Nyesom Wike, in the power tussle within the PDP, Atiku would garner 65 per cent of the state votes.

Ortom had said that unless Wike was appeased,PDP would risk losing the state votes during the 2023 presidential election.

Chila said  regardless of whatever action Ortom would take, during next year’s general elections, PDP and Atiku would always win elections in the state.

He said that from 1999 to date PDP has become very entrenched in Benue.

He added that for the fact that PDP National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu is from Benue, it made it imperative that nothing could change the voting pattern in the state.

“You may wish to know that my governor, Ortom, is also a candidate for the senatorial election in next year’s election.

Interestingly, the presidential election and that of National Assembly come up the same day.

“So, with Gov. Ortom’s fate tied to that of Vice President Atiku Abubakar, it is impossible for PDP to get less than 65 per cent of the state total votes cast.

“And with our son, Dr Ayu as the national chairman, PDP has the bragging rights for the maximum votes from Benue State,” Chila noted.

Chila, who contested the party’s ticket for federal constituency, explained that being a predominantly agrarian state with more population in the rural communities, no other political party could achieve rural penetration more than PDP.

He expressed confident that with the security and economy challenges facing the country, including Benue, the state would vote for Abubakar who has the capacity to address the challenges.

“We need stability and security and Benue State voters know that the only man that can pull Nigeria back from the precipice is Abubakar.

“The former Vice President is not coming to the Presidency as a learner, but will bring his wealth of experience to bear on national reconstruction.

” On the calls by some PDP stakeholders on Ayu to resign, Chila said those making the calls were either mistaken or mischievous, saying Ayu emerged through a foolproof process that was not controverted.

He said that telling Ayu to quit when he had not committed any impeachable offence amounts to questioning the very rudiments of democracy.

“Ayu has not committed any offence.

Therefore, anybody asking him to leave office is indirectly calling for the proscription of PDP, which is not attainable in a democracy.

“People should look beyond Ayu as an individual, he represents that party on account of the mandate freely given to him.

“If I may add, what would be the compensation for the North Central if Ayu resigns?

“The North Central has been making sacrifices for the growth and stability of PDP.

“Do we have to wait for 24 years before being considered for the presidential ticket, why must we throw away the consolation prize of national chairman?

    ” Chila asked.

PDP: Nothern coalition stages protest in Kaduna, says Ayu must resign

Coalition of the Northern Nigeria Peoples Democratic Party Youth Movement, on Friday protested at the PDP Secretariat in Kaduna, demanding the resignation of National Chairman of the party, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the PDP is currently hit by crisis after Alhaji Atiku Abubakar emerged the party’s Presidential Candidate for the 2023 general elections.

Some PDP governors and leaders, particularly from southern Nigeria were insistent that for fairness, northern Nigeria should not hold both the party’s presidential ticket and national chairmanship position.

Leading in the struggle for resignation of Ayu, who is from the North Central, is Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers and other leaders of the party from southern Nigeria.

of the Coalition, Mr Shehu Isa-Dan’Inna, said they had been in PDP since 1999 without defection and had no plans to decamp even in the future.

He said for the PDP to win Presidential seat in the coming 2023 elections, the party Chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu must resign from his position as he had promised to.

Isa-Dan’Inna said for the PDP to project transparency as it had always done, the North could not hold about three key positions in the party.

“PDP is not a Northern Peoples Democratic Party nor Southern Peoples Democratic Party, we have to be just and united, to enable us to win at various levels in the coming 2023 general elections,” he said .

He noted that Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman must go, to fulfill the promise he made that he would resign immediately after the parties primary elections if a Northerner emerged the party’s flag bearer.

Isa-Dan’Inna said they were reminding Ayu to fulfill his promise because they were tired of opposition.

He said the country needed back the PDP at the helms of its affairs for overall wellbeing of Nigerians.

“If the PDP’s internal crises persist, I don’t think we will win the presidential election.

“About six governors are fighting one governor; in the South we have about four presidential aspirants cut across different parties which will reduce our votes, and the rulling party again which is strong,” he said “The other man is also so strong, we don’t want to devide our votes, that is why we are calling on Sen. Iyorchia Ayu to resign.

“It will be better wise for us to loose Ayu as the PDP Chairman and clinch the President seat, than to leave him and loose the presidency”, Isa-Dan’Inna said.

He called on the PDP Board of Trustees, National Working Committee and the PDP caccus to be just and fair in order to get the party to victory.

“If Ayu should keep to his promise, victory will surely be ours and Nigerians will smile again, the party leaders must act to salvage Nigerians, we don’t want to continue suffering,”he said.

NAN recalls that the crisis got deeper on Wednesday, when loyalists to Wike’s caucus pulled out of the Abubakar presidential campaign council after a meeting in Portharcourt, Rivers.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the protesters carried placards with inscriptions reading: “Ayu Must Go”, “Ayu must step down”, “We need justice, and fairness for all”.

Ex-lawmakers urge  PDP members to shelve calls for Ayu’s resignation

Former members of the National Assembly from the South-West geopolitical zone on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have urged members of the party to shelve their agitation for the resignation of the National Chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu. The Interim Coordinator of the PDP South-West Forum of Former Parliamentarians, Yemi Arokodare, made the call in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.

”Party members across the region should shelve all personal interests and work tirelessly for the success of the party in 2023 general elections, in spite the lingering leadership crisis.

“We wish to appeal to all the South West Party Leaders to tarry a bit on their request that the PDP National Chairman, Ayu should step down as part of measures to address the lingering crisis in the party.

“This may further cause imbalance and instability within the party, if allowed to linger.

” Arokodare said that the group acknowledged the concerns raised by all the party Leaders and other stakeholders on the need to ensure fairness and equity in the party structure.

He said that the former lawmakers also noted the merit for inclusiveness of South West within the party, but urged that the demand should come after the general elections.

“Beyond this, we feel very strongly that, what is important now is to work like we did in Osun State and win the next Presidential, National Assembly, Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections, our concerns for now should be how to win the coming polls, then, other things will follow.

” Arokodare commended the party’s Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar for his consultation visit to the South West region as part of the ongoing nationwide consultations in preparation for the 2023 general elections.

He also commended, Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for hosting the meeting during the visit of Zone by the Abubakar which he described as unprecedented .

He commended PDP leaders and members for their large turn out to attend the consultation meeting where they discussed issues and views.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that on Sept. 8, the National Executive Council of the PDP passed a vote-of-confidence in Ayu, suggesting that the party chairman will not be stepping down any time soon.

A motion for the vote of confidence in the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) was moved by the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu at the BoT and NEC meeting which held in Abuja on Thursday.

The vote was supported by a NEC member from Kwara and presided over by the acting chairman of the PDP BoT, Adolphus Wabara.

There have been several calls by the southern caucus of the PDP for Ayu to step down for a southerner, however, with the vote of confidence, it is almost certain that Ayu will not be vacating the seat.

The meeting was witnessed by just four of its 11 governors including Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Darius Iskaku (Taraba), Duoye Diri (Bayelsa) and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi) as well as the Deputy governors of Benue and Adamawa.

Atiku’s Economic Plan is SAP Pocketbook: VON DG

Mr Osita Okechukwu, the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), says former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, is planning another calamity for Nigeria with his Economic Plan, a replica of the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP).

Okechukwu, a foundation member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, saying that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate has nothing for the country.

“I watched with rapt attention, but in deep regrets that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s Economic Plan delivered at the Lagos Chamber of Comerce and Industry (LCCI) last Monday is more or less like the nebulous economic policy of Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP)’s Pocketbook of 1986. “The former Vice-President harped profoundly on privatisation of State Owned Enterprises as the fulcrum of his economic revitalization programme, akin to SAP proponents of yore.

“Whereas, one is not against private sector partnership; however what we have in surplus are rent seekers, and scanty industrialists.

“Therefore, I am not surprised that a man who breached PDP’s constitution and by extension failed to unite his party did not bother to do the needful assessment which posits that 80 per cent of State Owned Enterprises privatised under his chairmanship of National Council of Privatisation and indeed the 16 years of PDP leadership went into comatose,” he said.

Okechukwu added: “Recall that when they came to power in 1999, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with Atiku as Chairman of National Council on Privatisation (NCP) dusted up the SAP Pocketbook and stripped our national assets including profitable companies like NICON Insurance, NICON Hilton Hotel, Niger Dock and unprofitable companies like Distribution Electricity Distribution Companies.

“For instance, Niger Dock a profitable pre-privatisation company has 6,000 staff under Nnamdi Ozobia, today it has gone under with less than 600 staff and the N1.72 billion proceeds allegedly missing.

“Secondly, NICON one of Africa’s leading Insurers originally owned by the Federal Government of Nigeria was privatised in December, 2005. With an asset base of N46.9billion gathered over a 52-year period of operation, 30 branches and six regional offices, it is therefore modest to classify NICON as a colossus in the insurance industry, but has regrettably gone under AMCON life support management.

“I challenge His Excellency to take a glance at the unintended consequences of the privatisation program before taken us back to SAP Pocketbook.

Especially when Federal Government has wasted over N2 trillion life support to Electricity Distribution Companies privatised to improve our power supply.

Today the outcome is crisis which defeated the core objective of privatisation.

” Okechukwu urged Atiku to focus on solving the internal crisis facing his party, before thinking about winning the 2023 presidential election.

“I make bold to say that what Atiku is proposing is by no means different from SAP policy thrust neither is his proposal on NNPC Ltd better than the giant steps that President Muhammadu Buhari has taken towards commercialism of NNPC.

“If you ask me,His Excellency Atiku Abubukar should first unite his party, and drop Sen. Iyorchia Ayu who incidentally has crowned him Nigeria’s Odinga.

“Only thereafter could he return to the drawing board and recalibrate his Economic Plan in line with what the new frontiers that Nigerians are yearning for,” he said.

Lagos PDP disagrees with Makinde over call for Ayu’s resignation

Lagos PDP disagrees with Makinde over call for Ayu’s resignation  Lagos PDP disagrees with Makinde over call for Ayu’s resignation PDP By Adeyemi Adeleye Lagos, Sept. 17, 2022 The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State on Saturday disagreed with Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on his call for removal of Sen. Iyorchia Ayu as the party’s National Chairman.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Makinde and some South West PDP leaders on Wednesday called for Ayu’s resignation at the zone’s stakeholders’ meeting with the presidential candidate of the party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Hakeem Amode, on Saturday,  the Lagos State Chapter of PDP said that it distanced itself from the call for Ayu’s removal because of the potential crisis such removal could plunge the party into.

Amode said that the chapter believed that PDP had survived as a political  party due to adherence to the constitution of the party and its rules and regulations.

“As much as we extolled His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, as our leader in the southwest, there was no prior meeting where such agreement was reached with the leadership of the party in Lagos State.

“The  leadership of the party in Lagos State will like to commend the national leadership of our great party, PDP, in its efforts to rescue the country.

    .

“We appeal to the amiable leadership of our party in the southwest region to work together to return the Peoples Democratic Party to its glorious days in the administration of the southwest region of the country.

“Our focus should be directed mainly to encouraging our teeming members to rally round our candidates vying for House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and Governorship positions and ensure they win the elections,” Amode said.

According to him, achieving electoral victory for PDP in Ogun, Lagos, Ekiti, Ondo and Oyo states  will register  strongly the importance of southwest in the affairs of PDP and Nigeria.

“Considering our position as the state in the heart of the coming elections, hosting the APC presidential candidate and being a preferred opposition party to win the election, Lagos State PDP cannot afford a disunited regional leadership.

“We appeal to individuals who view the removal of the National Chairman as a way to resolve to the internal crisis rocking the party to have a rethink and respect for the constitution of the party.

“We should see the need to form a solidly viable alliance that can guarantee our party’s victory in the next general elections,” Amode said.

NAN reports that the PDP was hit by crisis after Alhaji Atiku Abubakar emerged the party’s Presidential Candidate for the 2023 General Elections.

Some PDP governors and leaders are insisting that, for fairness,  northern Nigeria should not hold both the party’s presidential ticket and chairmanship position.

Leading in the struggle for resignation of Ayu, who is from the North Central,  is Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers and other leaders from southern Nigeria.

The call for Ayu’s resignation was strongly made by some South West PDP leaders led by Makinde, on Wednesday, when Atiku met with leaders from the zone ahead of the commencement of 2023 General Elections campaign, on Sept. 28.

Ayu must step down to allow Southerners in PDP’s top hierarchy- Makinde

Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Wednesday insisted that Dr Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), must step down to allow Southerners in the top hierarchy of the party.

Makinde made the position of South-West leaders of the party known at the zonal stakeholders’ meeting held at the Prof. Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

According to him, PDP is talking about unifying the country, talking toward the government of national unity.

“Well, the issue is that we must practice what we preach.

If we want to unify Nigeria, we must unify PDP first.

“If we want government of national unity, the faces in PDP must reflect national unity.

“If we want to restructure Nigeria, we must have the willingness to do what is right to bring inclusivity into PDP.

“The message from the South-West PDP is that the National Working Committee of the PDP should be restructured.

“We are asking the National Chairman to step down so that the South will be fully included.

That is the message,” Makinde said.

In his remarks, Abubakar Atiku, the Presidential candidate of PDP, said he was in Ibadan to interact with all the party stakeholders on the preparations toward 2023 elections.

Atiku urged the South-West leaders of the party to remain focus and work toward the party’s victory in the coming elections.

On the issue of the national chairmanship, Atiku said: “Overtime, PDP has developed its Constitution as regards party’s electoral processes, zoning of offices, power sharing, among others, which will bring about unity of the party and the country.

“Therefore, the request of Gov. Makinde is achievable under our party’s Constitution, rules, regulations and procedures.

“So, the party’s Constitution must guide us on whatever changes we make.

” Earlier, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, the Vice Presidential candidate of PDP, urged members of the party in South-West to be more united and work toward the success of the party in the 2023 general elections.

Okowa, also the Governor of Delta, said that PDP was well prepared to take over power from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, the country is facing various challenges under the APC-led government.

He described the PDP presidential candidate as “an experienced and quality leader who is capable of leading the country well”.

Okowa, also urged the people to go into the election with one love and determination to win the poll.

Among the dignitaries on Atiku’s entourage were former Governors of Niger, Babangida Aliyu; Osun, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko and Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti.

2023: Okowa cautions against cyber bullying in election campaigns

Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta and Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic  Party (PDP) has cautioned against cyber bullying in the name of campaigns for the 2023 elections.

Okowa made the remarks on Tuesday in Abuja at the Northern Christian Youth Assembly Summit, with the theme ‘Unifying Nigeria:The Role of Northern Christian Youths and Women’.

He said that Nigerians should be allowed to use the cyber space to express their choices ahead of the 2023 general elections.

“We are beginning to see bullying in the cyber space of our country, I think that everybody should have his space, time, to be able to think, make comments without being bullied,” he said.

According to him, what is important in the build up to the election is for Nigerians not to act on emotions, but be guided with knowledge and build cohesion in electing credible leaders to transform Nigeria.

“This is the hallmark of those who think and use their brains; when we talk about the future is for the youths, it is actually from today.

“However, the real truth is, our youths particularly youths leaders must be in position to have a clear understanding of things so that they are able to guide others aright.

“This is because if you have a leadership that is not able to provide that true leadership of guiding people aright and people begin to think in the wrong way, then you create further problems rather than finding solutions and we all go the wrong path,” Okowa said.

He commended the group for organising the summit to discuss Nigeria’s challenges and find solutions.

Okowa also said that the topic of the event was apt, because it focused on unifying Nigeria.

He called on Nigerians not to practice politics of religion, but to unite to elect leaders that would build a Nigeria for all where things would work.

He assured that if elected, their administration would give priority to education and tackle poverty.

In his remarks, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, National Chairman of PDP said it was time for Christians to show greater interest in politics.

“I do not think God will just come down and answer your prayer, you need to act too, that way, God will help us.

“For a long time, many people saw politics as something to be left to others, but I am happy that today this narrative has changed, events have made it possible to see that the control of political power is very important.

“Therefore, it is important that Christians have to rise up, come together and show a greater interest in politics.

”Ayu also urged them to join parties and be interested in what is happening around them so as not to allow bad leaders takeover power and misuse it to affect them, their families and communities negatively.

He said that Nigerian needed leaders that would attend to the challenges facing the country and assured that Atiku Abubakar, the PDP Presidential candidate, will be the right choice to achieve that.

He assured that if given the chance, they would unify the country and enhance national development .

“We looked around and we thought we have to give him not just a vice president that will assist him, but we did our homework to select a young man who is highly educated, very humble, and who has done very well as a governor in his home state.

“It is on Okowa’s  personal merit he was selected by the party as the vice presidential candidate to Atiku Abubakar.

“I think Nigeria will be very lucky to have two such people who are committed to development, who are detribalised and who believe in uniting this country,” Ayu said.

He, therefore, urged the group to support Atiku and mobilise Nigerians to vote for PDP, so as to salvage Nigeria.

In his comments, the Anglican Archbishop of Jos, Rev. Marcus Ibrahim, who read from Ezekiel 3:16-21, called on youths to guide other citizens to elect credible leaders in 2023.Ibrahim called on the Church and youths to be the voice of the voiceless by speaking against evil and injustice in the country.

“As we enter election year, we should give our people direction, by encouraging them to come out and vote.

“Youths as watchmen should herald a new dawn in the country as we prepare for 2023 general elections.

“To me, the winning team is Atiku and Okowa, so we should make noise everywhere because that is one of the strategy God taught Joshua to defeat Jericho,” he said.

Earlier, the host, Mr Bok Ayuba, former Speaker, Plateau House of Assemby, said the group had agreed to back the PDP candidates, because they believed in their capacity to rescue Nigeria and make things right.

Ayuba said the group has branches in all local government areas of the country and would go round to mobilise support for the PDP.

“We will go to every state to mobilise from each local government to have a great number to discuss the way forward ahead of 2023 elections,” he added.

He urged members of the group “to spread the news and galvanise massive voters’ support to ensure PDP wins in 2023”.

2023: Ayu crowns Atiku as Nigeria’s Raila Odinga, says VON DG

The Director-General of Voice of Nigeria (VON),Mr Osita Okechukwu says the 2023 general elections in Nigeria will mirror many aspects of the recent presidential poll in the Republic of Kenya, among which are electronic transmission of results and expected outcome.

In a statement on Sunday, Okechukwu said the crisis of confidence and mutual suspicion dogging the major opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where the national chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, received a controversial vote of confidence from the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

He regretted what he called the comedy of errors and odd consensus in PDP caused by the unholy alliance between the duo of Ayu and the party’s presidential candidate, former Vice- President Atiku Abubakar, to breach the PDP’s constitution and by extension the power rotation gentleman agreement that holds Nigeria together.

According to Okechukwu, what Ayu succeeded in doing by retaining the imbalance between the North and South in the PDP and arrogantly refusing to step down from his party’s high horse chairmanship, is simply to wilfully coronate Abubakar, as Nigeria’s 2023 version of His Excellency Raila Odinga.

“You will note that after all, both Atiku and Raila share a lot in common – former Vice Presidents, and serial presidential candidates.

Indeed, Ayu has by his nepotism has given us impetus to, from henceforth, with no harm meant, address Nigeria’s former Vice-President as His Excellency Atiku Odinga,” he declared.

The APC chieftain narrated how most patriotic Nigerians waited with high expectations that the 79th PDP National Executive Council will take a profound decision aimed at redressing the North-South imbalance by placating the betrayed members of its Southern bloc with the chairmanship.

“But, having superimposed nepotism and arrogantly breached PDP Constitution; Ayu and Atiku rather propelled the tokenism of swapping the ceremonial BOT chairmanship, which was akin to telling a child at a village ceremony that since plates to serve rice have finished, he should open his palms to collect his portion,” Okechukwu stated.

Okechukwu, also a foundation member of the All Progressives Congress (APC)said that PDP has finally convinced Nigerians that they are neither prepared nor interested in building a harmonious, united and progressive country.

“Atiku and Ayu have regrettably painted PDP in opaque colour of party of share the money, stomach infrastructure, and rent seekers; by placing their personal interests above national unity.

I dare say that by this unholy divisive alliance, PDP has manipulated itself out of contention for the 2023 general elections, hence the Odinga insignia,” he said.
