Kogi Gov, Ododo, De Visit IDP Camp, Promise To Stand By Flood Victims

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, don show him care and commitment to the welfare of people wey flood affect for the state. On Tuesday, him visit the Adankolo Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp to identify with the people and families wey the flood displace.

Governor Ododo, wey dey accompanied by him Deputy, Comrade Joel Oyibo Salifu and other top government officials, use the occasion to distribute relief materials wey the State Government provide to the flood victims. Him assure them say him go stand by them and cater for their needs.

Alhaji Mouktar Atimah, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, thank the Governor for him prompt intervention to cater for the needs of the flood victims. Atimah say the Governor’s presence boost the morale of the displaced persons.

“I have come here to identify with you. It is my responsibility to mobilize government resources to cater for your needs and we shall do whatever we can to ensure we stand by you in this trying period,” Governor Ododo say.

Kogi State don dey face devastating flood wey don throw thousands of houses under water and displace over a million people, with the water level still rising. Nine out of the 21 Local Government Areas in the state dey affected by the flood.

One of the displaced persons, Abdul Isah, praise the Governor for showing him care. “My entire family is here as we have lost everything to the flood. Governor Ododo has shown he is governor of all by coming here today not only to give us food and other relief materials but to have first-hand information on how we are struggling here…. For the first time in days, I was able to smile because my governor is here. I voted for him and today, he has proven that our votes were not wasted,” Abdul Isah say.

The state government activate its early warning plan through enlightenment to ensure people move to safer grounds. They also call on the federal government and other international bodies to come to the aid of the affected persons, saying the situation is “devastating”.
