Kebbi Gov Approve N75,000 as New Minimum Wage for State Workers

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, don approve N75,000 as the new minimum wage for the lowest-paid civil servants in the state. Dis decision dey come after the governor sign the minimum wage into law on Wednesday.

The governor receive the reports of the minimum wage committee headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida. The committee propose three different amounts: N72,000, N73,000, and N75,000. Governor Idris use his discretion to choose N75,000 as the minimum wage payable to state workers.

The Accountant General of the State, Muhammadu Bello Ibrahim, promise that the State Ministry of Finance will heed the governor’s directive to ensure the payment of the minimum wage this month. He call on state workers to redouble their efforts to ensure productivity and bring the confidence the governor has in them to bear in the discharge of their duties.

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) President, Comrade Joe Ajearo, who witness the signing of the minimum wage into law, call on other governors across the country to emulate their Kebbi State counterparts to ensure immediate payment of the minimum wage to their workers.

The new wage will take effect immediately, with payments starting in October. The governor instruct that the payment be processed and made available to the workers within 72 hours.
