Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, don announce say 181 people don die from the tanker explosion wey happen last week for the state. He also talk say 80 people still dey hospital, and about 210 families affected by the explosion.
The governor reveal dis information on Tuesday after he meet with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. He say the meeting be to brief the President on the tragic incident and to thank him for sending a delegation to Jigawa immediately after the explosion.
The tanker explosion happen on October 15 when a truck carrying petrol from Kano to Yobe overturn near Majiya village in Taura Local Government Area. As people try to scoop the fuel, fire break out and cause a massive explosion that engulf the area.
President Tinubu direct the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, to lead a Federal Government delegation to Jigawa after the tragedy. The delegation include Jigawa’s immediate past governor, Mohammed Abubakar, who is now the Minister of Defence; Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali; Corps Marshal of the Federal Roads Safety Commission, Mr Shehu Mohammed; and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North West), Abdullahi Yakasai.
Governor Namadi say the state government dey cover the medical bills for all the injured people and dey provide support for the bereaved families. He also mention that President Tinubu promise to intervene and assist the victims.
A high-powered committee, chaired by a retired Deputy Inspector-General, has been established to investigate the root causes of the incident and advise the government on necessary actions to prevent future occurrences. Additionally, the President direct the Corps Marshal to investigate the matter and propose permanent solutions to such incidents in the country.
