Lagos, Nigeria — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) don drop di statistical breakdown for di 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), wey don show how candidates perform for di exam wey take place across di country. Di examination start for April 24, 2025, and many students and parents don express frustration over network and technical wahala wey affect di computer-based test (CBT) centers.
As per JAMB report, total of 1,955,069 candidates participate for di exam. Of dem, only 21.5%, or 420,415 candidates, score 200 and above. Di breakdown of di scores show say just 4,756 candidates score 320 and above, while 7,658 get between 300 to 319. As for di scores between 200 to 249, dem get 334,560 candidates.
“Dis year wey don pass, many candidates talk say di questions no easy at all, especially for Mathematics and Physics,” Ugonma Perpetual, wey do her exam for Mount Gilead Convent for Igando, Lagos, tell BusinessDay. “For Use of English, dem get issues. Some questions no show and di number of questions wey dem give us big pass wetin dem talk.”
Another candidate, Nmesoma, share her own experience, say during di exam, her system just comot power, and she dey wonder if her responses go fit submit. “My system automatically turned off before I finish. This na serious matter,” she talk.
Saviour Essien also express di frustration wey many candidates feel dis year. “I reach di center by 6:30 am, but dem still cause long delay. I no eat anything before di exam,” he lamented.
Dis year, 40,247 candidates wey dey underage (below 16 years) participate for di UTME due to policy wey allow exceptional students to write di exam. However, only 467 of dem, wey be 1.16%, score above 300, wey be di minimum benchmark for exceptionalism.
JAMB also talk say dem don withhold results for 97 candidates wey dey involved for examination misconduct, while another 2,157 candidates dey under investigation for suspected malpractice. Dem dey look into issues like impersonation and tampering with exam systems. Over 71,701 candidates no show for di exam at all.
For candidates wey get biometric verification wahala, JAMB don also talk say dem go reschedule dem to write di exam again if dem clear. Di board confirm say results for blind candidates and some under di JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG) dey still under processing, as dey wrote di exam under special arrangements with Braille and Read-Aloud mode.
Finally, JAMB announce say dem go host press conference later dis week to officially disclose di complete results for all candidates. This year’s challenges and the overall performance of di candidates show say improvement still dey needed for di examination process.
