World Health Organization (WHO) don raise alarm say insecurity and population movement dey fuel the spread of polio variant for Nigeria and other countries. Dis warning come at a time when Nigeria and other parts of the world dey struggle with various health challenges.
According to WHO, the movement of people from one place to another, especially in areas where there be conflict and insecurity, make it easy for the poliovirus to spread. Dis is because many of these areas no get good healthcare facilities and vaccination programs, making it hard to control the spread of the disease.
In Nigeria, for example, the Boko Haram insurgency and other security issues have made it difficult for health workers to reach some areas to administer vaccines. This gap in vaccination coverage create an environment where the poliovirus can thrive.
WHO also emphasize the need for increased efforts in vaccination and public health measures to combat the spread of polio. They urge governments and health organizations to work together to ensure that all communities, especially those in conflict zones, have access to necessary healthcare services.
The Director of Federal Produce Inspection Service, Sule Dafang, although not directly addressing polio, mentioned the importance of leveraging Nigeria’s resources to improve the economy and healthcare. He said that developing the country’s resources, including its agro base, could help in improving overall health and economic conditions.
