Hoodlums wey dem suspect say dem be cultists don invade Ifite-Awka, near di school gate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, killing no fewer than six persons.
According to eyewitnesses wey talk to our correspondent on Thursday, di gun-wielding hoodlums invade di vicinity for di early hours of Thursday and open fire on some persons, suspected to be members of another rival cult group, thereby causing chaos and panic for di area.
It was gathered that di suspected cultists were looking for members of di rival cult group who were said to be hanging around di vicinity of UNIZIK school gate.
One of di sources and a student of UNIZIK who witness di scene, say, “Over six persons were shot dead near Witness Garden, Ifite Amansea Road. Di hoodlums invade di area at about 9:30am today and started shooting at some persons suspected to be members of a cult group.
“One of our lecturers coming to school had to go back. She call me saying she saw seven lying persons lying dead.”
The spokesman for di Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirm di development.
He say, “Di Police responding team has taken over di scene of indiscriminate shooting today 24/10/2024 by 9:15 am at Ifite, behind Unizik gate, Awka by suspected gunmen.
“Preliminary information showed that di armed men unprovoked started shooting sporadically and some bullets fatally hit four persons in di area and were rushed to di hospital for aid by di police operatives. Also, some empty shells of bullets have been recovered at di scene.
“Meanwhile operations are ongoing in di area and further details shall be communicated, please.”
