FG Don Launch New Plan to Fight Antimicrobial Resistance

The Federal Government of Nigeria don launch the Second National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) to tackle the growing problem of antimicrobial resistance in the country. This new plan, which is an update to the previous one, aim to improve antimicrobial stewardship, enhance surveillance and detection capabilities, and promote research and development of new antimicrobials.

The Minister of Health, who was present at the launch, emphasize the importance of this plan in saving lives and reducing the economic burden of AMR on the healthcare system. The plan include strategies for improving infection prevention and control practices, enhancing laboratory capacity for AMR surveillance, and promoting public awareness about the risks of AMR.

As part of the plan, the government also launch a national genomic surveillance strategy to better track and respond to AMR. This strategy will use advanced genetic sequencing techniques to identify and monitor AMR pathogens, allowing for more targeted and effective interventions.

The launch of this plan is a significant step in Nigeria’s fight against AMR, and it aligns with global efforts to address this critical public health issue. The government is calling on all stakeholders, including healthcare providers, researchers, and the general public, to support the implementation of this plan to ensure its success.
