The Federal Executive Council (FEC) don approve the printing and distribution of one million science textbooks for secondary schools across the 774 local governments in Nigeria. This move dey aimed at addressing the deficiencies in science subjects and improving the quality of education in the country.
According to reports, the approval was granted during a recent FEC meeting, and the textbooks will be distributed to all secondary schools nationwide. This initiative dey part of the government’s efforts to enhance the educational system and ensure that students have access to quality educational materials.
The Senate also join in the discussion, calling for a national summit to tackle the crisis of out-of-school children. Senator Lawal Usman, Chair of the Senate Committee on Education (Basic and Secondary), present a report highlighting the need for a collaborative effort between the federal and state governments to address this issue.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio emphasize the importance of proper oversight and proactive efforts to address the underlying issues in the education system. He talk about the poor conditions in many primary schools, including students sitting in flooded classrooms and using chairs they brought from home.
Akpabio stress that simply allocating funds is not enough; there need to be regular visits to schools, periodic reports, and roundtable discussions with stakeholders to ensure progress. He also suggest that the requirement for counterpart funding should be reconsidered if it is hindering states from accessing critical educational funds.
