Cammie Kennedy, wey dey lead College Career Centers for Wichita Public Schools, talk say, “E no dey affect any student wey dey submit their application right now… Our students dey receive their aid; we dey track where dem dey for di process.”
But for students wey wan apply for dis aid, e go better make you submit your paperwork sharp-sharp because assistance fit dey waka slow. “Make you enter, make your FAFSA complete because e still dey first-come, first-served,” Kennedy add. Financial aid counselors don talk say, if you no fill your FAFSA on time, you fit miss scholarships or even collect less financial aid. “Many states and colleges no go even give merit scholarships if you no complete di FAFSA,” she remind dem.
She also drop warning say na only students no be di people wey go create account for FAFSA. Parents too need account make dem fit check wetin dey happen with di students’ financial needs. “Dem no dey financially responsible for wetin di student dey take for aid. Di only reason we need parent contributor na because dem be minors, dem still dey high school,” Kennedy explain no wahala. Counselors dey yan say di government shutdown no dey affect payments now, but deadline for applications still dey same. “Di FAFSA dey function still. We gatz continue to dey push am because we no wan make students miss big money,” she encourage all dem students.
