One big documentary film wey suppose show for London Film Festival don dey pulled out because of safety concerns. The film, titled ‘Undercover: Exposing the Far Right,’ dey expose far-right activists in the UK and their connections to a wealthy American supporter of eugenics research.
The festival organizers make dis decision after dem consider the safety of their staff and security personnel. Havana Marking, the producer of the film, express her disappointment but understand why dem cancel the screening. She say, “While I comprehend the festival’s obligation to ensure their staff’s safety, I am outraged that our film has lost its scheduled theatrical debut at such a late stage.”
The film follow the work of Hope Not Hate as dem investigate violent far-right groups and their plans for demonstrations and intimidation tactics. It also expose British far-right activist Frost, known as Archer, and his connections to Seattle-based millionaire Andrew Conru.
Despite the cancellation, the film is set to air on Channel 4 on Monday. Kristy Matheson, the festival director, say, “I believe the film is outstanding and ranks among the finest documentaries I’ve encountered this year. Nevertheless, festival personnel deserve to feel secure, and their mental health and well-being must be respected in their workplace.”
The cancellation come after recent far-right riots in Britain, which follow the tragic deaths of three children in Southport. Marking note that these riots have instill fear in people and make it harder to produce politically charged documentaries.
