Enugu State Don Take Over Full Control of Electricity Market

Enugu State don become the first state for Nigeria to take full control of its electricity market. Under the leadership of Governor Dr. Peter Mbah, the Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC) has assumed full regulatory oversight of the state’s electricity sector.

This move mean say EERC go now be in charge of regulating and developing the electricity sector for Enugu State, marking a significant milestone in the state’s quest for self-sufficiency in electricity supply. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has transferred the regulatory powers to EERC, allowing Enugu to commence the development of a sub-national electricity market in Africa.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) which was previously in charge, has ceased to operate in this capacity. This change is expected to bring about more efficient and localized management of the electricity sector in Enugu State.

This development aligns with the constitutional right of states to regulate and develop their own electricity sectors, and Enugu is setting a precedent for other states to follow.
