Ekiti Govt Dey Give Traders Six-Month Rent-Free Stalls to Fight Street Trading

Ekiti State Government don announce say dem go dey give traders six-month rent-free stalls and shops to help reduce street trading for the state. Dis announcement come from the Commissioner for Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperatives, Mrs. Omotayo Adeola, during a bilingual audience participatory simulcast.

The markets wey go benefit from dis initiative include Oja Oba main market, Agric-Olope and Awedele markets. According to Mrs. Adeola, dis gesture na part of the efforts to celebrate the second anniversary of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration and to boost commercial activities in the state.

She explain say the high cost of renting shops before now make many traders resort to street trading, but now, the government dey offer shop allocations on an annual rent collection basis with an initial six-month rent-free period. Traders no go pay rent for the first six months, but dem go be responsible for utility bills like electricity and sanitation services.

Interested traders need to register and apply for space free of charge at the facility management office on the first floor of the Oja Oba main market. Dem go need submit their name, nature of trade, passport photograph and National Identification Number, NIN.

Mrs. Adeola warn say traders wey already get shops in any of the markets no eligible for the scheme, and shops wey dem allocate but remain unused go be forfeited to government and reallocated to those wey need am.

The government also plan to enforce the law against street trading strictly once the allocation process finish, to protect street traders from accidents and ensure the money spent on fixing the markets no go to waste.
