Chidimma Adetshina, wey win di Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 title, don dey appointed as di brand ambassador of Enugu State. Di 23-year-old beauty queen receive dis appointment from di Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, in an X post on Thursday.
Her appointment come after a warm homecoming on Tuesday in Enugu, where she was welcomed with banners, traditional performances, and celebrations. Adetshina, who get dual citizenship, was born in South Africa to a Nigerian father from Enugu State and a Mozambique mother who is now a naturalised South African.
Adetshina face backlash while participating in di Miss South Africa 2024 competition over her Nigerian heritage, and she withdraw from di pageant. However, she later win di Miss Universe Nigeria title on 30 August.
Governor Mbah say her appointment symbolise her resilience and determination—qualities wey reflect di Enugu culture and values. He add, “Chidimma’s story will serve as a beacon of hope to our young people, particularly young women. Her influence will undoubtedly inspire others to pursue their dreams, and we look forward to engaging her in programmes that will empower our youths.”
Adetshina, who dey study law at di 300 level, express her gratitude in an Instagram post, reflecting on how being invited to represent Nigeria come during a low point in her life. She write, “I received di honour of being in di presence of di Governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Ndubisi Mbah. Upon my homecoming, I was received and appointed as di brand ambassador of Enugu State. I cannot express my gratitude for all di great things I have achieved in my father’s land.”
As she prepares to represent Nigeria and Enugu on di global stage at di Miss Universe 2024 pageant in Mexico, Governor Mbah assure her of di full support and pride of di people of Enugu State. He say, “We are confident she will continue to shine as a symbol of excellence and resilience.”
