CBN Don Take Over Nigeria Fixed Income Market, E Don Begin Work!

Abuja, Nigeria – E get one big wahala wey dey happen for our financial market! The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) don yarn say dem go take direct oversight over the trading and settlement platform wey dey manage the fixed income market by December.

This move no be small thing o! Na the FMDQ Group wey dey handle the fixed income market before this announcement. According to wetin dem put for circular wey Okey Umeano, wey be CBN’s acting director of financial markets department, sign on September 29 talk, dis na part of the bank’s plan to make everything dey transparent, efficient, and totally on point.

CBN talk say dis reform go help make the fixed income market fit sabi support monetary policy transmission and help grow Nigerian economy well-well. Who no like better thing? (Abeg, where my palm wine dey?)

For stage one, una go see say dem go oversee everything wey relate to the trading platform and end-to-end settlement process. Dem don plan am in stages to avoid any kind market wahala (we don see all those ‘market jaga-jaga’ before, no be so we want am again).

According to CBN, dem go start the testing of the new settlement process in the second week of October 2025. Then, dem go run Pilot Phase make sure everywhere dey stable before full migration go happen on November 3, 2025. If everything go as planned, by December 1, 2025, CBN go activate the new trading environment for everyone from primary dealers to pension fund administrators. Na serious matter be this o!

CBN talk say dem dey serious about improving the integrity of the market and making sure everybody dey follow the same rules. Dem don even call on the Financial Markets Dealers Association (FMDA) to join hands with dem as they dey transition. Together, we go build the kind fixed income market wey go shine (no dulling!).
