De Confederation of African Football, CAF, don give Libyan Football Federation, LFF, and Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, till October 20 to submit documents concerning the cancellation of the 2025 AFCON qualifying Group D match between Libya and Nigeria.
The match no hold because the Nigerian team, Super Eagles, pull out after their plane dey diverted to Labraq Airport, and dem hold the players hostage for 18 hours without internet, food, or water. According to Libya Al-Ahrar Channel, the Secretary-General of LFF, Nasser Al-Suwaie, confirm say CAF give both associations the deadline to submit the necessary documents.
Al-Suwaie say LFF don assign a lawyer to gather evidence, and he suggest say there may be collusion from some people inside CAF, but the position of the Libyan Federation strong. He insist say the Libyan Federation no involve in changing the plane’s landing to Al-Abraq Airport; it was a decision taken by the Libyan state, and everybody must respect the sovereignty of the Libyan state.
The Nigerian Super Eagles return to their country on Monday with disturbing reports of their experience. Team manager Patrick Pascal talk about how the team take turns sleeping on the bare floor at the airport and allege say Libyan officials deliberately make the toilets unusable in anticipation of the team’s arrival.
NFF already submit their documents to CAF’s Disciplinary Committee, according to reports. The situation dey generate a lot of tension and debate within the football community.
