British nurse Lucy Letby, wey dey serve multiple life sentences for killing and attempting to kill babies, don lose her bid to appeal her conviction for attempted murder of a baby girl. The appeal court in London reject her appeal on Thursday.
Letby, who be 34 years old, was convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others while she dey work as neonatal nurse at Countess of Chester Hospital in northwestern England between June 2015 and June 2016. Her lawyer argue say the retrial in July for the attempted murder of a baby girl known as Child K no suppose happen because of too much media coverage of her first trial in 2023, which create ‘overwhelming and irremediable prejudice’.
The retrial happen after jurors at Manchester Crown Court no reach verdict on the charge involving Child K. Letby, who claim say she never harm any child, continue to say she innocent. She watch the hearing from prison via video link and no show any emotion when judges deny her appeal.
This ruling come as inquiry dey go on to check why babies dey die in the neonatal unit and why the hospital no stop Letby sooner. Letby’s previous attempt to appeal her earlier convictions also get rejected in May.
Letby’s case dey attract plenty attention, especially with some experts questioning the medical and statistical evidence the prosecution use. Her new defense attorney, Mark McDonald, plan to file application with the Criminal Cases Review Commission to challenge her remaining convictions.
