One investigative panel wey dey under the Ministry of Interior don confirm say popular crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, wey people know as Bobrisky, complete im six-month jail term inside prison.
Dis panel, wey dey chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalena Ajani, say dem no find any evidence to support claims that Bobrisky sleep outside prison walls during im imprisonment. Bobrisky was sentenced to six months imprisonment on April 12, 2024, for abusing the naira and released from prison in August.
A member of the panel, Uju Agomoh, who be the Executive Director and founder of Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action, say during the period of Bobrisky’s imprisonment from April 12 to August 5, 2024, dem no find any evidence that he sleep outside the custodial centre.
However, the panel discover say Bobrisky enjoy several privileges while in custody, including furnished single cells, humidifier, lots of visits from family members and friends, self-feeding, designated inmates to run errands for him, access to fridge and television, and possibly access to his phone.
The panel also note that Bobrisky’s transfer to a maximum security facility as a first offender violate Section 164A and Section 164B of the Nigerian Correctional Service Act of 2019. Dem recommend that clear guidelines need to be set up to guide operations regarding such incidents in future.
