ASUU Don Talk Say Nigeria Need Serious Change We Go Fit Show Better Future

Benin City, Nigeria (May 10, 2025) – The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) don raise alarm over serious problems wey dey affect governance for Nigeria. ASUU National President, Emmanuel Osodeke, talk am during di union’s 23rd National Delegates Conference wey happen for University of Benin, Main Campus, Ugbowo.

Osodeke make clear say di issues wey dey plague di country include poor governance, bureaucratic wahala, and serious corruption. Him talk say dis problems dey affect development and make Nigeria de struggle despite di plenty resources wey supposed help am shine.

“Di condition for Nigeria dey bad, and e no get any form of inclusiveness, transparency, or accountability,” Osodeke yarn. “As we de look di country wey get vast oil reserves and energetic young people, e suppose dey lead for global development. But instead, high unemployment, inflation, and poverty nail us down.”

Him talk say di current economic policies wey di government dey run no dey help. “People dey Japa because dem no see hope for di country,” e add. “Di informal economy dey carry many people but e dey neglected in policy matters, and dis one dey affect dem negatively.”

Osodeke criticize di multiple taxes and charges wey dem dey impose on di informal workers, wey no dey help dem grow. “Di informal sector dey suffer because of wrong policies and dem dey find it hard to survive under di neoliberal economic pressure,” e say.

Him also emphasize say though some sectors like technology and agriculture dey show promise, di government need to put more serious effort for infrastructure development. Osodeke raise concern say brain drain dey continue, with many professionals and graduates dey jump go abroad for beta opportunities. “Dis brain drain na direct sign of wetin dey happen. E mean say di reforms wey we get no dey work,” e talk.

As he no gree keep quiet, Osodeke also talk about di security challenges wey dey face Nigeria. Boko Haram for di North-East, banditry for di North-West, constant kidnapping for di South, and agitations in di South-East dey cause serious wahala. “No region dey safe, and dis one dey create fear and division among di different ethnic and religious groups for Nigeria,” e add.

Him stress say for better development to happen, peace and stability need to dey exist. “Without peace and stability, development go just remain mirage,” Osodeke firmly stated.
