The Defence Headquarters don come out to debunk reports say dem appoint acting Chief of Army Staff. According to dem, no such appointment exist for now.
The Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, talk say the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, dey on leave and out of the country since September. This one cause people to dey speculate about his health.
On Sunday, some reports come out say Lagbaja don die, but the Army Headquarters quickly dismiss the report. Another report follow say DHQ don appoint acting COAS, but Gusau say no be true.
Gusau explain say there no provision for acting COAS in the Armed Forces of Nigeria. He say the Chief of Policy and Plans, Major General Abdulsalam Ibrahim, dey provide routine briefs to the COAS under the Standard Operating Procedures.
Gusau warn those spreading unfounded rumours to stop immediately. He also mention say the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, don speak with Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja and confirm say he dey in good health.
Lagbaja expected to resume his duties soon after completing his leave. Gusau also criticise those calling for military takeover, saying such actions be treason under the Constitution.
