For the local government elections wey happen on Saturday, October 19, in Kaduna State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) don show their strength by winning all 23 chairmanship and 255 councillorship seats.
Hajara Mohammed, the Chairperson of the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM), announce the results, saying that eight political parties participate in the election but APC emerge victorious in all the contested positions.
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State express satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the elections, noting that the turnout across the 23 local government areas was satisfactory despite minor issues reported in three polling units and wards.
The Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC) Kaduna chapter describe the election as largely peaceful and transparent, though some areas experience late arrival of voting materials.
Before the poll, there were controversies about the elections, particularly Governor Uba Sani’s comment that the APC would sweep the votes. The leading opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleged that the ruling APC was working to amend the state electoral law to pave the way for the ruling party’s victory in the election.
The PDP Chairman in Kaduna State, Edward Marsha, had earlier debunked reports that the party plans to boycott the elections, calling on their members to come out en masse to exercise their franchise and avoid acts capable of breaching the peace.
